DETEC SIC Announces the Completion of the High Power Microwave Sensor Suite Capability
The Directed Energy Test and Evaluation Capability (DETEC) Systems Integration Contractor (SIC) has completed the High Power Microwave (HPM) Sensor Suite (SS) Capability. The capability was acquired by the US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation in Orlando, FL and was subsequently installed at the White Sands Test Center at White Sands Missile Range, NM. The HPM SS Capability was developed under subcontract by EG&G Technical Services of Albuquerque, NM. The HPM SS Capability measures HPM fields in the vicinity of a ground target during an HPM test. This allows the test and evaluation (T&E) community to record the electromagnetic field spatially and temporally during HPM effects testing.
The HPM SS is packaged in a transportable, shielded container that houses a data acquisition control and analysis (DAQC&A) subsystem and provides workspace for the test crew. The DAQC&A subsystem features high-speed digitizing oscilloscopes that record sensor responses over the frequency range of 50 MHz to 10 GHz and 91-98 GHz. The HPM SS software system automatically removes instrumentation effects and converts these data into formats suitable for user interpretation. There is also a second transportable container to store field instrumentation and other equipment.
The HPM SS Capability supports several operational scenarios, including effects and vulnerability testing, source characterization, chamber and open-air testing, safety assessments, and propagation studies. The system supports both classified and unclassified test operations.
Programs wishing to use the HPM SS Capability should contact Mr. Russell Blundell, HPM SS Host Site Manager, 575-678-5584 or email: Russell.Blundell@us.army.mil.
